Getting Bright At Night, The Icarus Line’s crowning achievement. After years of persevering with the barest of support, in 2004 they finally released their gargantuan second album, Penance Soiree on V2. That record managed to eclipse everything they had achieved previously, and marks a time where the band finally seemed to be on top of the world. This song is the album’s centrepiece, and probably the purest distillation of their aesthetic at the time. Hypnotic vocals, overwhelming instrumentation, AMAZING lyrics, and an awe inspiring mid-section beginning at 6:15, where they impossibly manage to kick it up a gear and unleash what is probably the most furiously powerful, intense wave of wailing hysteria and fuzzed out psychedelic rock and roll ever made by human beings.
